George Merry - (Tenor) A funny, character type, pirate. Late 30's. He is gullible, affable and not completely with it all the time. A bit of a "mama's boy". The comic relief amongst the Pirates. A gravedigger ... Cockney dialect. Richard Joyce- (Tenor) An Irishman thru and thru.... early 30's... A Sailor. One of the good guys. Fun spirited with a sense of humor. Best swordsman of the "good guys". Thick Irish Dialect. Frederick O'Brien - (High Baritone) Thirty's - Another Irishman. Friend to Joyce. Mid 30's. A good sailor and a hard worker. Matchmaker, widow, meddler, opportunist, life-loving, commanding, gifted actor with excellent comedic timing. She is a force of nature but also must show compassion and vulnerability. Dance ability: some. We are looking to do the Barbara Streisand keys, so we are seeking someone that is an actor first, but has a huge voice to boot. Horace Vandergelder: Role Cast. Male 40-60 yrs. old (Baritone B3-E4). Well-known half-a-millionaire, widower, owns the Feed Store, gruff, set in his ways, authoritative. Seeking an excellent actor that can be rough around the edges, but likable/loveable. Dance ability: some. Cornelius Hackl: Role Cast. Male 30-35 yrs. old (Baritone Bb3-F#4). Head clerk at the Feed Store, timid but energetic, enthusiastic, and adventurous. Dance ability: must move very well. Seeking an excellent actor that can deliver not only with his musical comedy hopes, but really be vulnerable and real for “It Only Takes a Moment”. Barnaby Tucker: Role Cast. Male 18-20 yrs. old (Lyric Baritone – 2nd Tenor C3-G#4). Assistant to Cornelius at the Feed Store, extremely timid, naive, energized, follower. Dance ability: VERY strong dancer. This role can easily turn into a bad and annoying musical comedy sidekick. We are hoping for an honest actor that is truly invested in every moment. Irene Molloy: Role Cast. Female 30-35 yrs. old (Mezzo-Soprano, legit G3-F5). Owns a Hat Shop, widow, beautiful, smart, fun-loving. Dance ability: must move well. We are looking for someone strong and someone that can fight against playing the typical ingenue and be a smart strong woman. She has room to be quite funny and we would love to find a woman who is not only an honest and beautiful actor, but someone that has her own sense of comedy as well. Minnie Fay: Female 18-20 yrs. old (Mezzo-Soprano D4-F5). Irene’s assistant, naïve, straight-laced, fresh, excitable, a follower. Dance ability: VERY strong. She can also tend to annoy and drive people crazy. We are looking for a strong dancer that can sing, but has a strong sense of comedy. Think Jen Cody or that same type. She needs to be a comedian, but play it real and not try or push for laughs. Ambrose Kemper: Male 18-25 yrs. old (Tenor E3-G#4). Struggling artist, good-natured, accommodating, wants to marry Ermengarde. Possibly double in ensemble. Dance ability: strong. Needs to have a great sense of comedic timing, but at playing the straight man. Ermengarde: Female 18-20 yrs. old. Horace’s niece, diminutive, whining, high-strung, wants to marry Ambrose. Possibly will double in ensemble. Dance ability: strong. This is another one that can drive a person nuts. Looking for someone that can make a role that is written to be annoying endearing and funny. We need her likable, not the type that you want to see less of. We want her and Ambrose to be something we want to see lots more of. Ernestina: Role Cast. Female 30-45 yrs. old. Accommodating, good-time girl. An eccentric looking, extreme character type from Olive Oil thin to chubby. Will double in ensemble. She needs to have a scene stealing sensibility without trying hard. She just is. Needs to be a fantastic comedian. _______________________ “Wizard of Oz” Dorothy Gale: Female, any ethnicity, 18+ to play age 16. A fearless, independent heroine with gumption who feels misunderstood. She has dreams of “somewhere over the rainbow” away from her hardscrabble farm existence. She will eventually find the meaning of family in a completely different land. Must love dogs. (Mezzo/Mix) Low-G to E. Very strong singer with full sound. Miss Gultch / Wicked Witch: Role Cast. (Female 25-50) - Sings comically but doesn't have to sound good. Strong character actress. One of the greatest if not the greatest baddie of all time. A serious villain. Henry/The Wizard Of Oz/Gatekeeper: Male, any ethnicity, 45-70. This triple role encapsulates: Henry is a man of principles doing his best to keep a dust bowl farm alive for his newly redefined family and the people who work for him. He is a pragmatist and keeps his heart hidden. A Gatekepper & Oz a kindhearted if flawed leader who has greatness thrust upon him in a magical kingdom. He flies out in a balloon every night; not for those scared of heights. Vocal range: Baritone low G# to F. Auntie Em/Glinda, The Good Witch Of The North Role Cast. Female, any ethnicity, 25-45. Preferably 5’7” and up. Auntie Em is a hardworking farmer’s wife who keeps calm in a crisis and runs the Gale farm like clockwork. In the ensemble she will play The Barrister in Munchkinland and Esmerelda, the wife of the tour guide, and Oz salon owner. Good Witch Of The North: Must have a nice figure for her spectacular dress. Glinda is an “Auntie Mame” type with a sense of flair and pageantry while being a clever politician running her portion of the Oz community. This character flies nightly, so not for those scared of heights! Vocal range: Soprano G below Middle C to High C. Hunk/Scarecrow: Role Cast. Male, any ethnicity, 25-35. A kind, naïve farmhand and ally of Dorothy’s. Transforms into the assumedly brainless Scarecrow who helps Dorothy along her path of discovery. He employs a vacuous, but responsible, wisdom to their trajectory. The role requires a physical comedian with dance ability. Vocal range: Bari-tenor low D to G. Hickory/Tin Man: Male, any ethnicity, 30-50. A stalwart, reliable – if guarded – farmhand with a strong sense of self becomes the romantic, sensitive, courageous, but heartless Tin Man. A classic leading man type with strong tap skills is required. Vocal range: High Baritone/Tenor low C to F#. Zeke/Cowardly Lion: Role Cast. Male, any ethnicity, 25-40. Zeke, a fatigued, frazzled farm hand dons the mane of the prissy, self-obsessed Cowardly Lion. This kind-hearted, if scared and nervous, soul takes a journey to becoming the common sense leader the foursome needs. Strong comic skills and an improvisational spirit are welcome. Vocal range: Baritone Low C to E. Auntie Em/Ensemble: Role Cast. Female, any ethnicity, 35-50, no taller than 5’6”. Auntie Em is a hardworking farmer’s wife who keeps calm in a crisis and runs the Gale farm like clockwork.
