Features include "Bli-Blip," "All of Me," and "Throw That Girl Around." Must have a flexible voice and natural vibrato (but can sing straight tone when needed). Seeking all ethnicities. Male 2 (Lead): 25-40, Master of Ceremonies. This track combines roles played originally on Broadway by Casey MacGill and Michael Gruper (and later taken over by J.C. Montgomery). Must be comfortable scatting and playing a straight man in a comedic duet situation. Features include: "It Don’t Mean a Thing" and "Two and Four." Must have a flexible voice and natural vibrato (but can sing straight tone when needed). Seeking all ethnicities. Female 1 (Lead): 18-30, comedic soprano. Vocal chameleon who can switch between “legit” soprano sound (operatic ornaments to Bb) and hot beltress to comedic effect in the space of a single number. This track is all about range--being able to have weight down to F, belt to Db, floating soprano to high C. Played on Broadway by Ann Hampton Callaway, this leading lady needs to be extremely comfortable with close harmonies (singing on the inside of the texture), scatting, and impersonating musical instruments (sax and trumpet). Features include: "I’ll Be Seeing You," "Bounce Me Brother with a Solid Four" and "Bli Blip." Decent movement required and the ability to tell a clear, specific story through vocal improvisation (i.e., without lyrics). Always her late father’s daughter, she is determined to see the good in everyone despite her hardships and suffering. We see her blossom into a confident woman. Gabrielle: 20s, any ethnicity; must have great comic timing. Strong and expressive traditional musical theatre voice. Ella’s stepsister and daughter of Madame. Encouraged by her mother and sister to value material wealth and social status, she unenthusiastically joins them in their abrasive behavior. She has always followed rules but her awkward exterior hides a fiery revolutionary spirit. Passionate, empathetic, and witty, she is drawn to Ella and Jean-Michel. Seeking:Jerry Springer: Male, 40-65, white – the famous TV host. Formerly a lawyer with a local political career in Cincinnati. Jewish, grew up in Queens. Confident and in charge, with a laid-back, ironic style. Has a healthy dose of self-pity, and perhaps even self-loathing. No singing/dancing required. Lead. Steve: Male, 20-49, the Head of Security for the show (aka bouncer). A big guy capable of restraining the wildest guests. Jerry’s trusted confidant, who takes his job (perhaps overly) seriously. Strong singer/dancer. Principal. Warm Up/Satan: Male, 20-59, As the show’s warm-up comic, he’s super enthusiastic, riling the crowd, and obsessive/unhinged. Then Satan is a real showman, enjoying every minute. Strong singer/dancer. Principal. Dwight/God: Male, 20-49, as Dwight, a loutish but weirdly sentimental dude who is cheating on his wife with her best female friend and another man. God is God, through a Jerry Springer lens. Must have a killer voice with power blues and gospel chops. Lola dances in very high heels and so has to move well. This role calls for a star. This is the Tony Award-winning role originated by actor Billy Porter. Angels (Chorus / Ensemble): males, 20s–30s, any ethnicity. These are the six drag performers who populate The Blue Angel Nightclub. They need to be versatile, but also terrific dancers, singers and actors. This ain’t a job for no wall-flowers.
