Seeking:Marian Paroo: 18+, daughter to Mrs. Paroo and sister to Winthrop, she is the stuffy, conceited librarian and piano teacher in town. She is very learned and defends the “questionable” books that are in the library. She was close to her deceased father’s friend, Mr. Madison, and the town believes that she had an affair with him. Needs some dance movement ability. Soprano, low G to high A. Principal role. Marcellus Washburn: 18+, former con man and friend to Harold Hill, who now lives in River City; becomes fast friends with Harold again and helps him learn about the town, tries to help Harold get out of town after the con; Comedic actor, must be expert tap dancer. Tenor, G to high A. Principal role. Mayor George Shinn: 18+, the Mayor of River City, self-important, blustery, pompous, not terribly intelligent. Listens to his wife. Protective of daughter, Zaneeta, whom he thinks is dating the wrong boy in town. Takes himself seriously, but comes across funny. Ensemble singing--any range acceptable). Ensemble role. Olin Britt: 18+, editor of the Gazette. Member of the School Board turned into Barbershop Quartet, a bickering business man until he is united with the others by Harold Hill, and learns not only to sing in harmony, but to behave in harmony. Bass. Sight reading and/or choral experience preferred. Ensemble role. Oliver Hix: 18+, banker. Member of the School Board turned Barbershop Quartet, another bickering business man until he is united by the others by Harold Hill and begins to sing and act in harmony with them. Baritone. Sight reading and/or choral experience preferred. Ensemble role. Jacey Squires: 18+, owner of the livery stable. Member of the School Board turned Barbershop Quartet, another bickering business man until he is united with the others by Harold Hill, and sings and acts in harmony. High Tenor. Sight reading and/or choral experience preferred. Ensemble role. Ewart Dunlop: 18+, owner of the General Store. Member of the School Board turned into Barbershop Quartet, another bickering business man until he is united with the others by Harold Hill and sings and acts in harmony. Second tenor. Sight reading and/or choral experience preferred. Ensemble role. Charlie Cowell: 18+, a rival traveling salesman. First seen on the train at the start of the show, he returns to town to warn them about Harold and hopefully make himself a hero and earn sales himself. Dancing a plus. Ensemble singing--any range acceptable. Ensemble role. Tommy Djilas: 18+, a teenager from the “wrong side of town” who starts out as a troublemaker, but falls for Zaneeta, the Mayor’s daughter, and, encouraged by Harold, begins dating her secretly. He also becomes the assistant leader of the Boys’ Band, thanks to Harold giving him confidence and trust. Must be a strong tap dancer, including partnering. Ensemble role. Constable Locke: 18+, the town Sheriff. Dancing a plus. Ensemble singing--any range acceptable. Ensemble role. Mrs. Paroo: 18+, widowed Irish mother to Marian and Winthrop, she speaks with an Irish accent. She is a sweet, cheerful homemaker who wants the best for everyone. She gives Marian a lot of advice about how to find a man, and dotes on Winthrop. She falls for Harold’s con. Always keeps her hands busy. Mezzo-soprano, A flat to E flat. Ensemble role. Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn: 18+, Mayor Shinn’s wife, she is definitely a society lady, knows everyone in town, struts about like a peacock and is somewhat snooty. A member of every auxiliary organization in town, she has some strange ideas and doesn’t think she looks as ridiculous as she really is. Keeps her husband in line. Alto, D to D. Ensemble role. Zaneeta Shinn: 18+, must play 16-18 years of age. Mayor Shinn and Eulalie’s daffy teenage daughter, she has a crush on the town “bad boy” Tommy. She is not rebellious, but is learning to stand up for herself. Very cute and feminine, she is a dancer. Must be a strong dancer, including tap and partnering. Ensemble role. Ethel Toffelmier: 18+, jolly and friendly, and plays the player piano. She gossips with the other ladies. Alto or soprano, D to D. Ensemble role. Alma Hix: 18+, the wife of Oliver Hix, she is a gossipy friend of Eulalie. Alto or soprano, D to D. Ensemble role. Maud Dunlop: 18+, the wife of Ewart Dunlop, and another of Eulalie’s gossipy friends. Alto or soprano, D to D. Mrs. Squires: 18+, the wife of Jacey Squires, she is also one of Eulalie’s gossipy friends. Alto or soprano, D to D.

Seeking:Female Ensemble/Mrs. Snoring Man/Seamstress (Chorus / Ensemble): Female, 40-49, passenger on the train to Vermont. Later, she also plays the seamstress for the show. Covers Martha: Once a musical comedy star, now the general’s housekeeper at the Inn. A winning, appealing character comedienne with a clarion belt voice; middle C-high G. Female Ensemble/Tessie (Chorus / Ensemble): Female, 20-37, Bob & Phil’s secretary. Covers the female lead, Betty Haynes: The sensible responsible half of the upcoming song and dance team The Haynes Sisters. She has a beautiful, rich singing voice that matches her decent, upstanding principals. Must move well; soprano up to high F. Male Ensemble Singers: Male, 18-49, all types and vocal ranges. Female Dancer Ensemble/Rita/Rhoda: Female, 25-35, featured ensemble tracks, tall, comedic, sexy, flirty showgirls. Not very bright, but not played over-the-top; major tap skills and must be equally strong in ballroom and theatre jazz. Must sing very well. Female Dancer Ensemble/Judy Haynes Cover: Female, 18-29, to covers Judy Haynes, the younger, more ambitious Haynes sister. While wholesome and adorable, she is sexy and flirty – a winning charmer no man can resist. Strong tap and theatre jazz needed. Seeking a major song-and-dance performer. Chest-mix; major tap skills and must be equally strong in ballroom and theatre jazz. Must sing very well. Male Dancer Ensemble: Male, late 20s to mid 30s, no older to cover Phil Davis, the ambitious, go-getting, song-and-dance partner of the team of Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown, operator, incorrigible skirt-chaser… and definite ladies’ man. He saved Bob’s life during the war and became his partner and engine behind their fabulous success. He must have boyish charm and sex appeal. Strong tap and theatre jazz needed. Seeking a major song-and-dance comic performer. Bari-tenor; major tap skills and must be equally strong in ballroom and theatre jazz. Must sing very well.

An emotionally and physically challenging role requires the body of a boxer, with the soul of a Diva to play this scene-stealing drag performer. Must have a killer voice with power blues and gospel chops. Sings to a Bb. Lola dances in very high heels and so must move well. This role calls for a STAR. This is the Tony Award Winning role originated by actor Billy Porter. Angels (Supporting): Male, 18-30, Males, 20s–30s, any ethnicity. These are the six drag performers who populate THE BLUE ANGEL NIGHTCLUB. They need to be versatile, but also terrific dancers, singers and actors. This ain’t a job for no wall-flowers. Tumbling, acro and tricks a plus. Will be required to dance in heels. May cover principal roles. Male Swings (Chorus / Ensemble): Male, 18+, Males, 20s-early 30s, any ethnicity.
