Seeking:Equity and Non-Equity performers for Studio Tenn Arts co-production of The Sound of Music. Local actors are encouraged to submit. BARONESS ELSA SCHRADER - she/her, 30s-50s, A wealthy baroness of elegant, sophisticated, dignified, and charming taste. Legit-Mezzo Range THE MOTHER ABBESS – she/her, 40-50s, Wise, kind, and strong. Powerful Legit-Mezzo Range. ROLF GRUBER - he/him, around age 17, Suitor to Liesl, telegram delivery boy, later a Nazi soldier. A very pleasant young man, somewhat aggressive but in a gentle way. Must be a very strong singer, dancer, and actor. Low tenor. LIESL VON TRAPP - she/her, around age 16, The oldest child, blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings. Must be a very strong singer, dancer, and actor. Mezzo. FRIEDRICH VON TRAPP* - he/him, around the age of 14, Tough exterior, trying to be “the man” of the family. LOUISA VON TRAPP* - she/her, around the age of 13, Rebellious attitude. KURT VON TRAPP* - he/him, around the age of 10, Gentle and mischievous. BRIGITTA VON TRAPP* - she/her, around age 9, Smart and blunt, reads a lot. MARTA VON TRAPP* - she/her, around age 7, Very sweet and gentle. GRETL VON TRAPP* - she/her, around age 6, Must have the cute factor. SISTER BERTHE - she/her, Mistress of Novices, prudish, straight laced with a quick tongue, she is less tolerant than other nuns. Alto. SISTER MARGARETTA - she/her, Mistress of Postulants, very kind, understanding, and concerned. Mezzo. SISTER SOPHIA - she/her, Neither demanding nor critical, sticks with the rules. Soprano. FRANZ - he/him, 30-50s, Distant and efficient butler to the von Trapp family, very German and loyal to the Fascist cause. Non-singing role. FRAU SCHMIDT - she/her, 35-55, Efficient yet caring housekeeper, Legit voice. HERR ZELLER- he/him, 40-50s, He is overbearing, arrogant, and pompous. A typical Nazi official whose primary concern is to see that everyone toes the line. BARON ELBERFELD - he/him, 40-50s, neighbor of the Von Trapps and one of the “Old Guards” of Austria - violently opposed to the takeover of his beloved country by Nazi Germany. BARONESS ELBERFELD - he/him, 40-50s, A neighbor of Captain Von Trapp and wife to the Baron Elberfeld. ADMIRAL VON SCHREIBER - he/him, An important figure in the Austrian Navy and appears to be much respected by Captain Von Trapp. A part of the new regime. NUNS ENSEMBLE - Salzburg citizens, nuns, and contestants in the Festival Concert. Must be strong singers who are comfortable singing harmonies.

Seeking:Equity actors for chorus singer parts in Barrington Stage Company's 2023 Season (Musicals) CABARET Master of Ceremonies (Emcee): middle C to high C#, tenor. The host at the Kit Kat Klub – a character comfortable with intimacy with men and women – comedic – loveable but embraces the dark tendencies of humankind. Is the embodiment of the German people and the mob mentality that enabled the rise of the Third Reich. Any gender. Sally Bowles: low A to high C, soprano. A British Cabaret singer and the headliner at Berlin's Kit Kat Klub. To the outside world, Sally is eccentric, compelling, vivacious, and outrageous-- a true free spirit. But under her flashy facade, she is far more complicated than she appears. Clifford Bradshaw: low A to high E, tenor. An American Novelist and English teacher traveling to Berlin, Cliff arrives with the exuberance and optimism of a young artist, but leaves disillusioned by Berlin's changing political climate. Fraulein Schneider: Low D to Ab above middle C, alto. The proprietor of the apartment housing where Cliff rents a room. She is alone and resigned to her place in life. Hard exterior, but vulnerable underneath. Herr Schultz: low G to high F, tenor. A Jewish man, one of Fraulein Schneider ’ s roomers and the proprietor of a fruit shop. He falls in love with Frau Schneider. Sensitive, sensible, warm, and a good guy. Fraulein Kost: CAST - low A flat to high F, alto/mezzo. Another of Fraulein Schneider ’ s boarders. She exhibits a strong sexual comfort and commanding nature. Ernst Ludwig: CAST - low A to high E, tenor. A friendly and likable German, takes English lessons from Cliff, and smuggles funds for the Nazi party. The Kit Kat Girls (5): Flexible Vocal Range, Female presenting or non-binary. Rosie, Lulu, Frenchie, Texas, and Helga. The dancers at the Kit Kat Klub. These individuals will also be part of various scenes as performers, citizens, and as club patrons. Highly dance-intensive roles. Interested in those who also play instruments, but not required. Will understudy Sally Bowles, Fraulein Kost, and Fraulein Schneider. The Kit Kat Boys (4): Flexible Vocal Range, Male presenting or non-binary. Bobby, Victor, Hans, and Herman. Dancers at the Kit Kat Klub, with fluid sexuality and morals. Highly dance-intensive roles. These individuals will also be part of various scenes as performers, citizens, guards, and club patrons. Interested in those who also play instruments, but not required. Will understudy Clifford Bradshaw, Emcee, Ernst Ludwig, and Herr Schultz. A NEW BRAIN Gordon Michael Schwinn: (Tenor, 30-35) A mix of loveable, sarcastic, vulnerable, and neurotic, who sees the humor in the tough things that life can throw at you. Mimi Schwinn: (Mezzo, late 50s- late 60s) Gordon’s loving, (over)protective, at times unstable, mother. Gave her son his sense of humor. A survivor. Mr. Bungee: (Baritone, 45-60) The director/producer and star of his own children’s television show. A great entertainer. Alternately, delightful, overbearing, demanding, and hilarious. Rhoda: (Soprano, 30-40) Gordon’s business manager and best friend. Loyal, loving, at times neurotic. Roger Delli-Bovi: (Baritone, 30-40). Gordon’s charming and affectionate lover who battles Gordon’s neuroses with love and the truth. Lisa: (Mezzo, 35-55) A homeless woman. Wise, at times bitter, with thick skin. Nancy D.: (Soprano, 25-35) A rather sadistic nurse. Richard: (Baritone, 30-50) A kind and compassionate nurse. Dr. Jafar Berensteiner: (Baritone, 45-60) A showman of a Doctor. The Minister: (Tenor, 35-50) The hospital pastor. Always aiming to inspire.

Very dedicated to family but toxic in her language toward her children. She likes to let loose and have fun just as much as she is ready to lay the hammer down and hold authority in her home. Yoira: 20, the only girl of her siblings and middle child. Struggles between how she can redefine being a mother and keep Juana off of her back. She doesn't regret having her newborn son, but she certainly had bigger dreams for herself. Edward/Alex: Edward: 15, the youngest of his siblings. athletic and smart but unfocused in school. Struggling between being a teen and being a self-defined man. Challenged with anger issues and yearning for a healthy male role model which he lost when his brother left to serve in the Army. Alex: 23, Juana’s oldest. Recently enlisted into the army. Young dude who struggles with college but wanted to make something of himself and joined the military (pre 9/11). Juli: 15, chubby, Anna’s oldest child, feels out of place in her Dominican culture and values, wants the highest good for everyone she loves but often feels silenced. She’s navigating her intuitive gifts and magic--without guidance from her family who shames the notion that she had visions. Junior: 12, Julie’s annoying little brother. Loves video games and sugar. Victimizes himself to get his way--he’s very smart. He yearns to be validated.
