Performances: Wednesday thru Sunday, 5 shows a week. Roles CAST. Seeking Covers/possible replacements. Matt Role CAST. Male, 19, sweet-voiced Baritone or Bari-Tenor, low A to high G. As a young lover, he is deeply in love, particularly with the idea of being in love. He lacks experience in the world so, while not stupid, he is naive and perhaps even foolish at times. His image of a young man in love is one of a gallant protector, meaning that he approaches some decisions with a falsified bravery that is little more than bravado. Strong acting and must move well. This role has been cast. The Mute Role CAST. Male or Female, any age. The Mute serves many functions-setting props as characters need them, assisting El Gallo, and becoming the wall separating the families. While this is a nonsinging, non-speaking role, the actor must have a good sense of rhythm, and dance training is a huge plus. The Mute is a speechless presence who watches and helps tell the story with his/her body or fades into the background unnoticed, when needed. The Mute is an agile physical performer with adept mime skills and dance abilities. This role has been cast. Bellomy Role CAST. The Girl’s Father, male 40’s-50’s, a “Character” Baritone. He is fastidious and tidy. Bellomy would do anything to make Luisa happy—including manufacturing a false feud with his best friend and neighbor, Hucklebee, to bring their children together. He even goes as far as hiring El Gallo to stage a phony abduction. Although the scheme initially meets with success, it ultimately backfires. Must have great comic timing. This role has been cast. Hucklebee Role CAST. Father of Matt, male 40’s-50’s, a “Character” Baritone. Hucklebee is pretending to fight with Bellamy in order to get Matt and Luisa together. Must have great comic timing. This role has been cast. Mortimer Role CAST. The Man who Dies - Male, Any Ethnicity, 30+ Does not sing much, but must be able to sing in tune and hold harmonies. Must be adept with improve and have great comic timing. Any types, ages, shapes and sizes for this role. A clownish and goofy character who specializes in dying—comically elaborate death scenes. Mortimer and his partner, Henry, are hired by El Gallo to assist in the phony abduction of Luisa. This role has been cast. Henry Role CAST. An ancient actor who specializes in reciting passages from Shakespeare's plays, Henry is hired by the two fathers to stage an abduction in order to end the fake feud. This role has been cast. LOOKING FOR: Luisa Female, Legit Soprano – High C. Seeking actress 18+ to play 16. As a young lover, she is in love. She is in love with love, the idea of love, the idea of being in love and indeed everything remotely romantic. Her dreams are more fanciful than those of Matt. Because of her particular vision of romance, she deals with the world on a particularly naive level. Strong acting and must move well. * May be the same actress playing Cindy in SUDS: The Rockin’ 60’s Soap Opera El Gallo Male, High Baritone, 30-45 – As the narrator of the piece, he is the liaison between the audience and the action onstage. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, yet with darker moments. His attitude toward the rest of the cast reveals a decidedly mysterious side. Above all he is grand and must command attention. ________________ SUDS: The Rockin’ 60’s Soap Opera Director: Melinda Gilb (not expected at EPA) First rehearsal: September 18th; First performance: October 4th; Close: October 21, 2018. She can be dressed in bathrobe, slippers and curlers. (In the second act she is underdressed as Johnny Angel. Hairpiece with curlers should pull off. Bathrobe should be rigged for tearing open.) Mr. Right: A dashing, debonair, good-natured man. A cross between Ward Cleaver and a matinee idol. Right out of a Sears Catalogue, or an arrow ad come to life. Although very strong and confident, he should not be lecherous or leering: he's very polite to women and in fact very charming. Milt Dudman: A nerd. Loud, obnoxious, inappropriate and unappealing. Costume suggestions: glasses with tape, beanie with propeller, highwater/too-high-waisted pants, pocket pen protector, loud jacket etc. Johnny Angel: Earnest young man. Tries to be cool but is really just a regular guy. Has been dressed 'dreamy': white jacket, tux pants, pink tie & cummerbund. Sings "I Feel Good" (James Brown) and "Secret Agent Man" (Johnny Rivers) Falsetto backups in "Tell Him" to B flat. Bass backups in "I Will Follow Him" to A below middle C. In "Mr.Postman" should be comfortable with a strong pop sound to G flat. This role has been cast. LOOKING FOR: Cindy A sweet, personable, possibly gawky girl. Impressionable, and by turns optimistic and depressed, she grows in confidence as the play concludes. She probably wears a ponytail. Should have a strong alto and a sweet sounding mix. Low F. Belt to B-flat. Easy mix to D. Sings sweetly (“Where The Boys Are,” “End of the World,” “Walk On By”) But also in a low range (“These Boots Are Made For Walkin'”) Should be able to belt out “Town Without Pity” (to B flat). Her Act One Finale Solo (“I Don't Wanna Be A Loser”) goes from a sweet wistful soft ballad to a big belt finish. * May be the same actress playing Louisa in THE FANTASTICKS Marge A tough cookie. Larger than life, brassy redhead with a sharp tongue and a heart of gold. Flashy dresser. Probably in a sexy top, capris and high heels. Marge should have a strong, controlled pop/rock belt, Tough R&B 'wail', Plus nice mix for backup. Solos include: "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" (Dusty Springfield) Belt to C#, "Respect" (Aretha Franklin) R&B to F, "Our Day Will Come" Nice mix to C.
