Seeking:Bernadette (Lead): Male, 40s-50s male; outstanding acting, dance, singing (range adaptable) and lip-synching ability essential; a quietly dignified transsexual who must be convincing as an older woman who was once the star performer of ‘Les Girls’; the mother of the group, Bernadette is glamorous, oozing Old Hollywood charm with rapier wit and sensitivity; must be able to be convincing and touching in her attraction and growing relationship with Bob; leading Role (played in film by Terence Stamp.) Mitzi/Tick (Lead): Male, 30s to early 40s male; outstanding acting, dance, singing (baritone – tenor) and lip-synching ability essential; with an unremarkable and essentially straight exterior, Tick is a discontented drag queen, the best in the business; estranged husband of Marion and absent father to eight year old Benjamin, his journey from disillusionment to fulfillment through being reunited with his son is the central core of the story; leading role (played in film by Hugo Weaving) Felicia/Adam (Lead): Male, early to late 20s male; very well maintained physical features with outstanding character acting, dance, singing (tenor) and lip-synching ability essential; a flashy, young drag queen and born performer with a more than occasional bitchy streak; provocative and outspoken he has a tendency to get himself into trouble with both friends and complete strangers; leading role (role played in film by Guy Pearce.) The Divas (Lead): Female, 20s-30s females; sassy and strong, these women lead us through some of the greatest hits of the last decades; all shapes and sizes welcome, but brilliant vocalists in the disco-belt style a must; will also be part of the female ensemble. Bob (Supporting): Male, 40s-early 60s male; strong acting ability with one song; a mechanic; typical laconic attitude, soft hearted Aussie bloke who spent years wandering around the world only to find he was better off where he started; has a fascination with Bernadette whom he saw perform in ‘Les Girls’ in Sydney more than twenty years ago. Shirley (Supporting): Female, 20s-40s female; hardened outback bar tender/waitress; good ironic comedy; character acting, dance and strong singing ability, solo and ensemble pieces; also one of the Divas. Marion (Supporting): Female, late 20s-early 40s female; a hotel Entertainment Manager in Darwin, mother of eight year Benjamin and estranged wife of Tick (Mitzi); a strong, direct and forthright woman who takes charge, but is incredibly accepting of her role as a single mother; there is a deep unconventional affection between her and Tick; strong singing and acting; will be required to sing and dance in ensemble numbers. Cynthia (Supporting): Female, 20s-early 30s female of Asian/Eurasian origin; Bob’s feisty Filipino wife; a frustrated performer of obscure ‘stage tricks’ which make her very popular at the local pub; she spends her days as a housewife looking after Bob and his home; character acting, dance and singing ability essential; note: anyone auditioning for this role should look at the scene in the film involving Cynthia’s performance in the bar involving ping pong balls, where the role and costuming will be at its most raunchy. Miss Understanding (Supporting): Male, 20s-30s male; a fabulous drag queen with great comic hosting ability; sets up the tone of the show for us, must be able to work a crowd well, and look brilliant in drag; ability to deliver Tina Turner numbers convincingly a must; character acting, dance and singing ability, mostly all ensemble pieces with one key scene. Frank (Supporting): Male, late 20s-mid 30s male; tough miner bloke with violent tendencies; a hardened resident of mining town Coober Pedy; tall, strapping and very outback Australian; character acting, dance and singing ability, mostly all ensemble pieces with one key scene. Male Ensemble (Supporting): Male, 18-40 year old males with excellent acting, singing and dance ability; a number of performers are required to play a variety of ensemble characters in the production; tall preferred, over 5ft 10in ideal, any drag experience a plus; must be able to move comfortably in heels

Seeking:Nellie Forbush (Chorus / Ensemble): Female, 25-30, legit mezzo low A to C, dance; fresh faced innocent good hearted young nurse from Arkansas; she has energy to spare and determined optimism; in the course of the show, her beliefs are challenged and what seemed innocent becomes naïve and overly simplistic as she grows into a richer woman. Emile deBecque: Male, 40-59, operatic bass, French accent; a mature, sophisticated French planter with a discreet past, he has made a beautiful home for his two bi-racial children on a lush plantation; when he meets the unprotected and unedited Nellie, he is forced to reckon with ghosts of the past, and realities of the present. Lt. Joseph Cable: Male, 25-30, tenor E to high G; an extremely handsome and intelligent Lieutenant with a bright future in the US Navy, he is awoken to the harsh realities of racism and the rules of war in the 1940’s. US Marine Luther Billis: Male, 40-59, baritone, comic role; a lovable character who provides his fellow marines with much-needed comic relief; does not respect authority; enterprising, stubborn; adores Nellie. Bloody Mary: Female, 40-59, mezzo, low G to high F, comedic; Polynesian woman, mother of Liat, she is a shrewd merchant who makes a fortune off the sailors, all in the service of giving her jewel of a daughter a promising future. Liat: Female, 16-20, non-singing; a beautiful Polynesian girl who steals the heart of Joe Cable; she is shy and reserved, as she encounters and falls for the confident brash American-ness of Joe; Bloody Mary's daughter. Henry/Also islander: Male, 18+, any age, French dialect; Emile's Polynesian servant, speaks French. Capt. George Bracket: Male, 40-60, commanding officer on the island; slightly pompous but not without a soft side. Cmdr. William Harbison/Also Seabee: Male, 25-40, Bracket's right hand man; can be hot-headed, especially when Billis is concerned. Ngana: 6-12, Emile's Polynesian child; sing and speak in French. Sings G below middle C to high E THE PHANTOM: 30s – 40s: high baritone or tenor (with a strong low range) with a contemporary sound. Able to sustain high G# with ease in full voice and high C# in falsetto. Looking for a truly dynamic actor with excellent acting and singing ability. RAOUL, VICOMTE de CHAGNY: 20s – 30s: dashing, handsome young aristocratic man who falls in love with Christine. Contemporary high baritone/tenor (2 octave range from A flat to A flat). MONSIEURS FIRMIN(the hard money man – Baritone with high E/F) & ANDRE (charming with artistic temperament – Baritone: high G with ease): 30s – 50ish; the managers of the Paris Opera House. Trying to be elegant, they are slightly befuddled and bumbling. Need good instincts for stylish comedy. CARLOTTA GIUDICELLI: 30s – 40s; the prima donna of The Paris Opera. A diva in every sense of the word. Coloratura soprano, to high E. Requires opera training. MADAME GIRY: Late 30s – early 50s; the Opera’s ballet mistress. An ominous, stern, forbidding figure. Mezzo soprano to high B flat with no discernible break between head and chest MEG GIRY: Should convincingly play late teens to early 20s; A young, petite ballet dancer with a strong mezzo soprano to G. Needs strong classical dance technique and excellent pointe work UBALDO PIANGI:30s – 50s; the opera’s leading tenor, Italian operatic tenor, companion to Carlotta. Sings to high C. Requires opera training. BUQUET: MIDDLE aged to elderly “character man”. The head flyman of the Opera Populaire. Bass baritone but required to sing to E. DANCERS (Chorus / Ensemble): Males & Females, 18-25, seeking strong classical dancers. Not looking for tap dancers, jazz dancers, or "hoofers." All female dancers should have a degree of innocence about them and look very young (characters are 18-25); we need experienced, classically trained dancers; most of the audition will be on pointe; in addition, there is the principal role of Meg, who is a member of the Corps de Ballet; she should appear to be between 16-18 years old; the range is mezzo-soprano to G. All male dancers must be classical/ballet dancers; they should have solid classical technique with a musical theater flair; they must be well built and muscular.
