Seeking:Joy: Female, late 50s-60; a baby boomer of great warmth; she is a folk/rock star from the late 1960s and beyond; half of the successful rock group “Jump and Joy” but Jump, who was also her life partner (who didn’t marry her), has left this world; an off-beat Bohemian who has always marched to the beat of her own drummer; Joy loves life and music, her daughter and her granddaughter; she likes Lou; a lot; great vocalist; think Grace Slick or Annie Lennox for her vocal sound. Rachel: Female, late 30s-40; Joy’s only child, who rebelled against her parents’ hippie-musician free-love lifestyle and married an evangelical televangelist, on whose very successful show she frequently sings; she has kept her distance from her mother and is sincere about her faith and raising her daughter in it; her mom marrying another woman is not a good thing for her, nor have many things been good for her in her eyes regarding the way she was raised; Rachel loves righteousness; great voice, mostly used for her church in Oklahoma; Strong gospel belt to Db; role requires strong comedic ability. Tamara: Female, 17-18 (must be able to believably play 17-18); Rachel’s daughter who has just graduated from high school; She loves rock and roll and rebellion. She has started writing and performing her own music which she won’t share with her mother because it’s not at all what her parents feature on their TV show; she is a typical teenager, and fighting the life in the church; she adores her grandmother and dreams of being a professional musician; ability to play guitar a plus; hard rock voice belt to E. Lou: Female, 30s-60; Joy’s “unexpected” girlfriend; an African-American blues and R&B singer who records on an independent label; an unapologetic lesbian and activist, she wants Joy to marry her partly to make a political statement; Lou loves Joy, and is ready to take on the issues that Joy’s family bring along; easy sense of humor; ability to vocally improvise and handle blues-y vocal licks; great voice; belts to high E.
