Seeking:“In The Heights” Ussnavi (Male-Latin X, Age 22-30): An emigrant from the Dominican Republic. Owner of De La Vega Bodega, which he inherit since his folks passed on. Joyful, enthusiastic and witty. He has the continuous desire to “go back home”. Usnavi is in love with Vanessa. Though Usnavi would like to be something more than Vanessa’s “friend”, he has never made any attempt. He is the eyes and ears of his Washington Heights neighborhood. Must speak Spanish and rapping ability necessary. Nina (Female-Latin X, Age 19-24): A righteous young woman who’s always been a straight A student. Nina has just finished her freshman year at Stanford University. She is the daughter of Kevin and Camilia Rosario. She puts a lot of pressure on herself because she is the only member of her family and friends who made it to college. She is best friends with Vanessa and a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who know her. She represents the opportunities outside of “the Heights.” Speaks Spanish. Must dance. Benny (Male-African American, Age 22-30): Benny is Usnavi’s best friend. He is ambitious, tenacious and confident. He once was a street punk and hoodlum, often finding himself in trouble but wants more for himself. He has worked for Kevin and Camilla at Rosario’s Taxi Service since he was a young man and is considered a part of the family until he starts developing feelings for their daughter, Nina. Vanessa (Female-Latin X, Age 19-24): A dreamer. Wants a better future for herself. She appears strong, but in reality she is very vulnerable. Vanessa works at Daniela’s salon to save enough money to leave the barrio and move downtown. Unfortunately, life and her alcoholic mother keep dragging her down. Must Dance well Abuela Claudia (Female-Latin X, Age 50-65): A Cuban immigrant, Claudia and her mother came to the U.S. to find work and a better life, but only found the former. Daniela(Female-Latin X, Ages 35-45): Daniela is the Puerto Rican owner of the neighborhood salon. Loves a good “chisme” (gossip). Savvy to say the least, she is quick witted, brassy and outspoken. Note: This new translation/adaptation is still in development, therefore all doubling is subject to change.  Actor 1: Don Juan (Male, 40-60): A notorious libertine, freethinker, and sensualist; a monster or a genius—or both. He wholeheartedly believes his elaborate justifications for doing exactly as he pleases. He has sharp intelligence and smoldering good looks. He’s definitely too old to be carrying on as he is. Actor 2: Sganarelle (Male, 30-50): Don Juan’s faithful valet—devoted to his master, but deeply conflicted over his role in the Don’s immoral behavior. He’s working class, not book smart, but incredibly wily; God-fearing and superstitious, but also a bit spineless. Actor 3: Dona Elvira / and As Cast (Female, 20-35): Don Juan’s abandoned wife, a vision of beauty, elegance, refinement, and intelligence. A former nun, she is focused and unrelenting in her pursuit of justice. Actor 4: Don Louis / and As Cast (Male, 60-75): Father to Don Juan, an old-fashioned gentleman who believes deeply in honor and principle. Though he’s a man of integrity, he is easily duped, because he’s ready to believe what he’s told if it confirms his worldview. Actor 5: Don Carlos / LaRamee/and As Cast (Male, 25-45): Don Carlos: Brother to Duchess Elvira, he is handsome and smart, the brains of his family. He lives life according to a strict honor code, even to the point of absurdity. He behaves as a respectable nobleman should, blood feuds and all. La Ramée: A messenger who warns Don Juan of approaching danger. Actor 6: Don Alonzo / Ragotin / and As Cast (Male, 25-45): Don Alonzo: Brother to Duchess Elvira, he is the brawn, very much an intemperate hothead, always eager for a fight. Ragotin: Servant to Don Juan. Actor 7: Pierrot / Beggar / Mr. Dimanche / and As Cast (Male 30-50): Pierrot: A sad clown and helpless romantic, quite simple, a bit innocent, the type of person whose eminent good nature is easily taken advantage of by others, meaning he’s unlucky in love. He often rattles on with long and inconsequential stories, but you cannot help but like him. Beggar: A pious mendicant with the face of a medieval saint. Mr. Dimanche: A hapless businessman easily duped in his attempts to collect a past-due bill from Don Juan. He’s a bit of a social climber, and can be led by the nose if you flatter him. Actor 8: Charlotte / Ghost / and As Cast (Female, 25-35): Charlotte: Pierrrot’s fiancée, somewhat bored by both her provincial existence and her prospects for love. She’s a bit of a flirt, a rough-around-the-edges beauty who can be ruthlessly ambitious and calculating in her quest to better her lot in life. Ghost: A specter that haunts Don Juan. Actor 9: Mathurine / La Violette / and As Cast (Female, 25-35): Mathurine: Charlotte’s friend and rival, she is attractive, brash and confident. La Violette: Servant to Don Juan Actor 10: Mr. Gusman / Statue / and As Cast (Male, 50-75): Mr. Gusman: Elvira’s loyal valet, he is somewhat conventional and dull in his thinking, and easily scandalized. Statue: A murdered colonel returned from the dead, the personification of a “great man” cast in bronze or marble. He appears at the end of the play to drag Don Juan to eternal Hellfire. He must convey significant gravitas.

Seeking:One Male Actor for Leading Role/Ensemble (Henry David Thoreau) The play centers around the relationship between Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. The role of Thoreau spans from his birth through his death. At times Thoreau is working closely with the Ensemble in highly physical storytelling, whereas at other moments he is solitary or in more intimate two person scenes with Emerson. The role is physically demanding and we are looking for performers who have a strong movement background, a love of nature, and a desire to work in the elements. TigerLion Arts’ work is enriched by the myriad life experiences of the actors, crew, and administrative personnel that make our shows possible. We believe that a cast and production team which exemplifies diversity of race, cultural origin and gender expression is imperative to bringing a show like Nature alive for a diverse audience. Though many of the tracks in the production play historical figures, all roles are open to members of any racial/cultural background. Actors of color, Indigenous actors, LGBTQ+ actors are particularly encouraged to audition.  Do you love creating and performing in an ensemble? Does being outdoors invigorate you? This summer TigerLion Arts (creators of The Dragons are Singing Tonight, The Buddha Prince, & KIPO!) will launch the 2019 national tour of their beloved outdoor walking play entitled Nature ~ the mythic telling of Emerson and Thoreau’s mutual love of the natural world. This play is written and created by local actor Tyson Forbes, a direct descendant of Ralph Waldo Emerson, along with director Markell Kiefer. Nature has toured to 20 parks and arboretums throughout the midwest and to Concord, MA. This is a complex piece that will challenge and fulfill you both artistically and physically. For more detail on the production please visit http://www.tigerlion.org/nature/ and view 2018 Regional Emmy award-winning documentary here https://www.tpt.org/nature-walking-with-emerson-and-thoreau/
